Did you know there are basically 3 different golf grips?
Well, I didn’t. But I did know that my grip felt stiff and uncomfortable. I sliced or hooked the ball because I didn’t have a proper golf grip. I didn’t feel I was getting a complete swing or the full distance I knew I should be getting. I normally hit 6 out of 10 driver shots with a Slice. My hands were tired and crampy because I was gripping too hard.
I started playing golf for fun and discovered that I was working at golf and looking forward to the cold beer at the end of the game.
Of course, like some of you, I didn’t have any “official” lessons. Friends and reading golf magazines were my instructions.
Now I use the Vardon Overlap Grip. When I grip my club now, I don’t feel stiff. This golf grip seems much more fluid for me. I seriously have never been able to hit a consistent straight shot with my driver so far since I started golfing, which was about 3-4 years ago. And so today I was just bored and wanted to fix my driver, and my grip has always felt odd, but i just could never make good contact.
But, what I was doing wrong was my left palm was gripping the club not my fingers. And this book really helped me! I’ve been hitting 225-250 consistently on the range recently with a proper golf grip.
